I walk in to a view of Melbourne’s CBD metropolis all the way to St Kilda beach and Port Melbourne with the Yarra snaking its way through the city of lockdowns. I can spy the MCG, the Australian Open Tennis Centre, Melbourne Victory’s stadium, Federation Square, The Concert Hall and every other iconic Melbourne institution.

This is level 48: the corner suite of room 4827.

The suite offers oversized living and a marble bathroom with an ever moving view.

I venture to breakfast on my third morning to level 35. This is where it all happens. There’s the Atrium bar with cocktails from New York mohitos to whiskey sours although I have to wait until five to step inside. Meantime the restaurant is offering up views with a side of fresh local produce and fine wines (perhaps not for breakfast) along with original artworks.

The Sofitel has a premier position at the top of Collins Street, known as little Paris because of the surrounding heritage buildings, mature street trees and high-end shopping boutiques. It is within a stroll to cute cafes, restaurants, galleries, and luxury shopping. Also, minutes away is Federation Square, theatres and a multitude of the city’s laneways with their renowned street art.

But if you’re not adventurous there’s absolutely no reason to leave one of Melbourne’s decadent five-star hotels and just enjoy the lap of luxury.
